Covid-19 Updates
The pandemic has and likely will continue to make things difficult to plan but with the consideration that things could change in either direction we are planning a sustainable curriculum for both in-person and online.
Our first two classes for both the Elementary and Junior groups will take place on Friday September 18th and Friday September 25th online on Zoom at their respective start times of 4:00pm (Elementary) and 6:30pm (Junior). Families will receive an invitation to the Zoom class via email after we receive the student's online registration form. We plan to resume in-person classes at The Maritime Conservatory on Friday October 2nd pending the covid-19 recommendations at that time.

In consideration of current Covid recommendations all students will be required to wear a mask when attending any in-person classes and they cannot attend if they have any of the following symptoms:

-
fever (chills, sweats)
-
cough or worsening of a previous cough
-
sore throat
-
headache
-
shortness of breath
-
muscle aches
-
sneezing
-
nasal congestion/runny nose
-
hoarse voice
-
diarrhea
-
unusual fatigue
-
loss of sense of smell or taste
-
red, purple or bluish lesions on the feet, toes or fingers without clear cause
We will be temporarily removing group or ensemble singing for the first semester to avoid unnecessary droplet and aerosol exposure while moving our focus towards individual solo singing and individual acting monologues and small group scenes that enforce 6 meter social distancing. Classes will now also be separated by a 30 minute break for disinfection and cleaning and also to avoid congestion of students as they exit and enter class. The Elementary group (grades 4-6) will meet on Fridays from 4:00pm - 6:00pm and the Junior group will meet on Fridays from 6:30pm - 8:30pm and there will be a 15 minute break after the first hour of each class to allow a ventilation break.

We will be fabricating and offering for sale specialized singing masks that meet recommended safety requirements while also keeping the mask open and away from the mouth so that vocalization and singing remain possible. These masks will be available to families for purchase for $25.00 before our first in-person class in October. (see below) Our masks feature three layers of material (2 of 100% quilting cotton and 1 of stiff interfacing) with an adjustable nose wire and adjustable ear elastics for better fit and comfort and an elastic jaw line that allows for talking and singing (even tall vowels) while still maintaining a safe seal.
Along with masks we will also be using a self designed and self manufactured Covid singing shield that the students will be able to stand behind while singing their individual songs. This will help to block and protect their classmates from potential droplets and aerosols released while singing and it is easily cleaned and disinfected between uses. (see below)
In addition our show licensor MTI (Music Theatre International) has recently modified their contracts to allow theatre companies and education programs to perform full musicals online in a streaming format so we are confident that we will be able to choose and announce a full musical this Fall which will be performed in early June 2021 either in person or online depending on the Covid restrictions in place at that time. We will also be offering a performance at the end of January 2021 featuring the music of Alan Menken which will be either online or in-person depending on the current Covid restrictions.

If at any time during the Fall or Spring semesters we see a second wave or sudden increase in community infections we will suspend in-person classes and move into a weekly online class on Zoom at the regular class times of 4:00pm - 6:00pm and 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

Your child's safety and the safety of your families is our primary concern and we can assure you we will be observing every recommended safety precaution and adjusting our policies as needed to keep everyone safe.
